The Sportage, Kia’s oldest nameplate, entered its fourth generation for the 2017 model year. Completely redesigned inside and out, we felt from day one that Kia’s smallest SUV had what it takes to compete in America’s most popular segment. Crossovers are king these days, and it was vitally important that Kia have a small SUV that could offer consumers seeking the versatility, value, and personality of the Soul a larger, all-wheel drive alternative.
It turns out we aren’t the only ones who think Kia hit the nail on the head: Cars.com has just named the 2017 Kia Sportage the Best New Compact SUV in its Best of 2017 Awards, and was a nominee for the 2017 Best of the Best Award!
The small SUV segment is full of serious competitors, but in the end, Kia’s not-so-secret recipe for success won the day: the Sportage is stylish, safe, packed with features, and still costs less to purchase and maintain than the competition.
Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor-in-chief, remarked that, “It’s hard to overstate how far Kia has come in the last 15 years: The South Korean brand has steadily refined its lineup while adding features that wouldn’t be out of place in a luxury vehicle. The redesigned 2017 Sportage compact SUV continues that trend with its distinctive styling, a roomy interior, easy-to-use technology and upscale available features,” going on to say that “the SUV segment is booming and compact SUVs are especially hot. That field is extremely competitive, but the new Sportage is well positioned to challenge them — and win.”
We couldn’t have said it any better ourselves, Mr. Olsen. From its bold new design to the Top Safety Pick+ recognition it earned from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2017 Sportage is one of the best values in the industry!
