The Kia Stinger GT, almost indisputably the most incredible vehicle to ever wear the Kia badge, just stole the North American International Automotive Show.
We’ve been writing about Kia’s various rear-wheel drive sports car concept vehicles for years, and we’ve been eagerly anticipating what we (correctly) believed to be the debut of a Kia sports car since we first saw this teaser website in December, but Kia’s big day in Detroit was the rare automotive reveal that really, truly caught us off guard.
Let’s deal with the obvious fact first: this is a gorgeous car, a car whose aggressive, smooth lines could be right at home on a Maserati yet is unmistakably a Kia, a rear-wheel drive BMW-killer that can seat a family and carry home the groceries when not conquering the Nurnurgring.
And then there are the performance numbers. Available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, the Stinger squeezes a whopping 365 horsepower from the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 that comes with the GT model. Kia has been making engaging, reliable cars for years, but has never produced a vehicle that could be comparison shopped against BMW, Audi, Jaguar, and Mercedes – until now.
As if that wasn’t exciting enough, preliminary indications suggest that the Kia Stinger will be less expensive than its European competition, and no matter what, we know the Stinger will come with Kia’s legendary warranty.
This is the car we’ve been waiting for, and somehow Kia made it even better than we’ve imagined. Stay tuned, folks – the moment this car arrives at our dealership, it’s all we’ll be able to talk about!
