Consider our interest piqued, Kia.
There’s just something about watching a digital clock count down, seconds, minutes, hours, and days. A bit mesmerizing for us watchers, don’t you agree?
It’s not unusual in the age of social media for new cars to be announced online. What is slightly unusual is to see that a manufacturer has set up a website with a countdown clock that will strike zero during next month’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
But that appears to be exactly what Kia has done.
The site, titled ‘The Curve Ahead,’ features a clock (showing 29 days, 18 hours, 47 minutes, and 38 seconds at the time of writing), a trailer, and this enigmatic statement:
“For curious minds, the curve ahead is all about potential,
as a new paradigm of performance beckons in the distance.
Join us here for the official countdown to the world premiere and find out what awaits through the curve ahead.”
While that sparse sampling of information, most consumers would be left in the dark, but those who have been following Kia closely this year (and who watched the included first-person racetrack video) have a very good idea of what Kia will be bringing to Detroit next month: the Kia GT.
Kia has an impressive history of releasing its most popular concept cars, and the GT Concept it showed off in 2011 looks poised to follow the Soul and Niro on the road to production. Although, as the new teaser website suggests, details are not readily available for the GT, expect it to arrive at a price point between the Optima and K900 and to gun for BMW and sister-company Genesis.
A rear-wheel drive Kia sportscar has been a long time coming, and we can afford to wait 36 days, 17 hours – well, you get the picture. We’ll be marking our calendars for January 8th and checking The Curve Ahead regularly for new trailers!
