If you’re in the market for an affordable, economical compact car you’re not alone.  The latest Cars.com, USA TODAY and MotorWeek Challenge set out to find just that.  After setting a top price of $20,000 and a requirement of at least 28 mpg, the competition was narrowed down seven:  The Kia Forte, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Carolla, Nissan Sentra, Subaru Impreza, Ford Focus and Honda Civic.  Each car was driven for a full day on a 200-mile stretch of Maryland road by a handful of drivers including six expert judges and a real-world consumer looking for a new car.  And the winner?  The 2014 Kia Forte LX!  With 780 out of a possible 1,000 points the Forte ranked 20-points higher than the number 2 vehicle.  Judges like the way the Forte looks (“sporty yet simple”), feels (the seats are “some of the most comfortable”) and drives (“ride and handling are excellent”).  To read more about the Forte LX, the other entries, and the challenge click here.
