By a show of hands, how many of you have ever watched a music video or musical performance on YouTube? Whoa! We’re picturing a sea of hands right now! In your YouTube viewing you’ve helped make the video sharing site so popular that it’s now launching the first ever YouTube Music Awards, with Kia as the only sponsor! The event will kick off later this month when nominees are announced and on-line voting commences. Then, on Sunday, November 3rd, YouTube will live-stream concerts from around the globe and culminating in New York. Artists to perform include Eminem, Lady Gaga, and Arcade Fire as well as a host of as-yet unnamed YouTube sensations. Spike Jonze will direct.
Kia will put its spin on the even with what it calls “interactive activations to create resonating, memorable and positive links between music entertainment” and the company’s brand. “Digital media has played a pivotal role in how we connect with our customers,” says Soon-Nam Lee, Vice President of Marketing at Kia Motors Corporation. “With more consumers going on-line every day to engage with content, it is only natural that we lead the way with this YouTube sponsorship.” Through its more than 250 social media profiles Kia estimates it engages nearly 1.4 billion people a day in conversations about the Kia brand and its vehicles.
