Happy “Back to School” week from Kia Motors America (KMA)! The automaker recently partnered with DonorsChoose.org, an online nonprofit designed to make it easy for anyone to help students in need. DonorsChoose.org describes its business model as “citizen philanthropy”. Public and charter school teachers post projects they’d like their classrooms to undertake, and donors decide how much they want to pitch in. Already, seven schools in Jackson County, including four in Medford, have listed projects (http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/search.html?state=OR&community=2530:1). Kia’s recently announced “Double your Impact” campaign will match up to $1-million worth of donations to those and other schools! The campaign’s designed to fund half of all classroom projects in close proximity to Kia dealerships around the country. KMA’s CEO explains that one of the “company’s core values – ‘Globality” – teaches us to strive to become a respected corporate citizen, which drives our company to contribute to a better future.” Byung Mo Ahn goes on to say, “Kia is committed to making a difference and is proud to be the first automotive brand to establish a national philanthropic partnership with DonorsChoose.org…”.
How it works: Visit www.DonorsChoose.org and use the location search to find schools in your area in need of assistance. Pick the project that appeals to you and donate however much you like. Or, if you’re a teacher and have a project that will cost $600 or less, you’re encouraged to post it, along with a description and explanation. Kia will match all donations until its funds are exhausted.
